Help Sponsor An Orphan Child

You can make donations online through Globalteer a charitable organization based in the UK. It is quick, easy and safe. All donations go directly to the Orphan Children of Nepal.

To be added to the mailing list for regular updates on the childrens progress, please donate, then send an email to amheaton@hotmail.com requesting to be added to the list.

How Will The Donations Be Used
For as little as $360 USD per year, one Nepali orphan can be sponsored, offering a child a brighter future. The sponsorship will help to cover the schools/orphanages costs including: food, housing, clothing, education and medical care. All of the donated money will go directly towards helping sponsor a child with no hidden administration costs.
The money donated by YOU will go towards helping cover the full sponsorship fee. Each person contribution, no matter how small YOU may think it is, will greatly help to cover the $360 yearly sponsorship fee for one orphan.

Construction Funds. After overseeing the work on the New Orphanage I am pleased to see that things are coming along. However, there is still plenty of work to be done on the New Orphanage in Ganganagar, Chitwan. The foundations have been assembled. Currenlty the new orphanage has 4 rooms and two bathrooms on the ground floor. The middle floor has a large classroom, recreation area and a further 2 bedrooms, one store room and a bathroom. The top floor will be the kitchen and large open area. There is plenty of room for the children to play in the garden and they will grow their own vegetable patch.

Money Donated To Date

$1400 dollars have been donated to fund some of the work at the construction site to build the new home. This money will help to pay for a roof, 3 toilets, ceiling on the 3rd floor, ceptic tank, plumming, electrician and labour. Offering vital economy to workers in the local community.

$300 dollars have gone towards sponsoring two children, aged 11 and 13, paying for their education at a private school in the Chitwan area who live with relatives but otherwise dont have the opportunity to go to private school.

$4000 is the total money raised as of June 06. I am still looking to raise money to fund the finishing of the orphanage. All donations are still gratefully accepted as there is always need for help in Nepal. All donation will go towards helping support the children and improving the community. We aim to make sure that the money is going to a sustainable cause.

Currently the sponsorship fees for the 5 children I have committed to sponsoring is being lookin after by a UK based organsistion - Globalteer, and will be handed over to Happy Homes when the children move in.

Starfishpromise is Proud to now Sponsor 5 Orphans.

15 orphans will soon be moving into their new home in Chitwan called Happy Homes. Starfishpromise is extremely proud to be able to now commit to sponsoring 5 children, commencing from the time the orphanage is complete. After visiting the site and speaking the the construction worker, we are very hopeful that the completion of the orphange will be finished by late August. The children will move in shortly after this date and we all look forward to seeing the children start a new chapter of their lives. Once the orphanage is complete the remaining funds will be accounted by Globalteer, and will be available on request to Happy Homes Orphanage for emergency funds. The money if it is not needed for this purpose will be carried forward to the next sponsorship year.
This is down to the overwhelming support of local communities, schools and businesses within Hampshire and Wiltshire, along with the support of a Summer Camp in California - Mountain Camp along with the loving support and help from family and friends.

Happy Homes Orphanage
Their aim is to provide children who have either lost their parents through death from illness or accident, or have been abandoned or working in child labour situations with a safe and caring environment, a "Happy Home". Given that INFO Nepal's priorities are equality, understanding and acceptance of people, they have, in the Happy Home, children from a broad range of religious, tribal and caste structures. Living together, working through differences, fostering a family atmosphere, getting a good education, and generally sharing life together is an important part of achieving this priority.
Their goals for the sponsored children are to educate them so that they can return home and make a difference in their village. They plan to do this by continually making efforts to bring the children back to their home villages for visits during festivals and holidays, sustaining a local connection, allowing their family to visit them at Happy Home, and finally, once the children are educated, they plan to hire them as regional coordinators or teachers for their villages. In this position, they would have facilities to house volunteers at their facilities, educate younger members of their villages, and generally improve the education, sanitation, and lifestyle of people in their village.

Happy Home Facilities
  • One Room for the Happy Home Parents
  • Three rooms for the Children (4 in each room)
  • One room for the Kitchen
  • One room for the children's Study and Library
  • Outdoor balcony and rooftop play areas
  • Access to the park (across from Happy Home) where children can ride a bicycle, & play games.
  • One room for volunteers & children to share - this has a TV, couches, and materials
  • Three rooms for the Volunteers and Staff

New Happy Home in Chitwan
Because of the great success and running of Happy Homes in Kathmandu, down to Asim and his family hard work and dedication, happy Homes are glad to announce that they are building a new orphanage in Chitwan above an existing library.
After 4 years successfully running the Library in Ganganagar the villagers have requested if Info Nepal can start a Happy Home like in Kathmandu in their village. As the Library is leaking from the roof and will need to be repaired or changed, Info Nepal have decided to build one more floor on the top of the library and make 3 more rooms above with separate Kitchen and Dinning room. This can provide 15 children with shelter in the building. They have a small piece of land behind the Library where Happy Homes can make a vegetable garden and they will rent land near by the Library for games and recreation. Construction will start on this project from mid Feb and will be completed by the end of March. But still there will be a lot of work to be finished like the Kitchen, the garden, play ground and all the decoration around the Library.
I will personally be going to visit and stay at the orphanage before and after the event to visit Happy Homes Kathmandu and Chitwan - to see how the children are doing and to view the ongoing great work first hand. I have the greatest admiration for Asim and his aims and morals. I am in no doubt that he puts the welfare of the children and their needs ahead of his own. The children at Happy Homes in Kathmandu are very fortunate, given the loving care, education and healthy food to grow into outstanding citizens. Many children in Nepal do not have this luxury and with the hard work and dedication shown by Asim and organisations like Info Nepal, and the help of donors like yourself, we can together help improve other children's lives, giving them a better chance in life. Together we can save one child at a time, like the little girl in the starfish story, we cannot simply surrender to our good intention because the broader picture seems to be to daunting to accomplish.

A report on the ongoing construction from a current volunteer

New Orphanage Home construction in Ganganagar , Chitwan

Current Report - By Nicky Deasy - Ireland - 3 April 2007

Construction work is in full swing here in Ganganagur! We have up to 15 men on site at any one time, and every day the building visibly grows! The extension of the ground floor is almost complete.  The walls have been built, and today the cement will be poured for the ceiling of the ground floor.Work will then commence on the first floor.

When complete, the ground floor will contain three bedrooms for the 20 children who will live here, along with a bedroom for the two ladies who will live here and look after the children. There will also be two bathrooms on the ground floor.

The first floor will contain the classroom so that we can continue teaching the local children, a volunteer room with bathroom, and the kitchen / living room.

Many children in poorer families in the villages around here live in tiny mud huts which are made of bamboo, plastered with mud, and have a thatched roof. In one small room, up to 10 people live, where they cook, eat and sleep in very impoverished conditions. When a problem hits the family, such as ill-health of a parent or child, there is no safety net, and many people cannot afford to go to a doctor or buy basic medications. Diseases such as scabies are very common, as a result of poor hygiene, dirty clothing and poor nutrition.

Many of these children never get an opportunity to go to school, as their families need them to mind younger children, or do hard physical work in order to earn a few rupees to support the family. As a result, they become trapped in a cycle of poverty which they cannot escape due to their lack of education. The children that will come to live here will be given a tremendous opportunity in life. They will eat good food, go to school every day, and live in a comfortable home, with the support of their families nearby. Volunteers will continue to live here to help the children with their English, and to teach English to the local community.

The construction project is also providing employment for up to 20 men, who otherwise would struggle to support their families.

There is great excitement here, and all the children call around every day to marvel at the high speed progress, before we start English class. The project has the full support of the local community, and we all look forward to opening in the next few months, and giving the poorer children in the district the kind of start in life that we would each wish for our own children at home.

More info on New Happy home in Chitwan

After four years of successesfully running a Children's Resource Center in Chitwan, Gangganagar villagers advised us to start a children home also.  The villages has already formed a committee to run the children's home. Our plan is to keep 15 underprivileged children from surrounding areas. There is a Boarding school near by the village where these children can go to study. The center has some land where we are going to design a garden, have a playground and keep a table tennis board. We already have enough money for the construction of the building! To sponsor the children, we are going to find additional funds and there are already a couple of people who have promised to sponsor these children. We would like to thank to our Volunteer from Germany, Silvia, who has donated money for our new happy home in Chitwan and also our current volunteer from Ireland, Nicky, has fundraised for this project and will manage the project in Chitwan. We again would like to say thanks to our past volunteer from Ireland, Antja, who has also donated fund for this new Happy Home. Thanks to Jim from England (another recent volunteer) who has donated money for this new Happy home project.

Our volunteer Nicky will be handling this project in Ganganagar. Nicky will be there until the construction is finished, the children from nearby the village are selected and management has been set up to run the home very well. We will put on our newsletter all of the children's information and we love to hear from you to sponsor these children.
